Tweet! Tweet!

August 6th, 2007  Well, I’ve gone and done it; I’m now a twitter user. I’m not heavy on making entries yet, but I find it is a good place to make random comments without worrying about the “overhead” of blogging. Feel free to follow me at http://twitter.com/tumultco.

I’m not 100% convinced I’ve bought into the whole twitter idea, but maybe it just needs a better mac client.

I drew this picture a while ago, but forgot to post it. The coloring job was quick, but mostly gave the effect I was going for.

You can be a rockstar for $500

July 5th, 2007  There has been a lot of discussion of the difference in how customers are treated at Apple stores versus AT&T stores. At the Apple stores, you’re a rock star:

I went to the Valley Fair store twice on launch night. The first time (when I took this video), the line was still incredibly long, and I was amazed at how happy people were when leaving the store. Around 10:30pm I went back, noticed that despite the store being crowded the line was gone, and got a little too tempted by the call of the iPhone (ahem, no pun intended). The Apple retail employees were still as genki as ever, and cheered me on while leaving the store with my new baby.

Failed poetry challenge/attempt #2

June 20th, 2007  What is in your imagination?
Will others perceive
sprinkled thoughts in the dew,
The delicacy I’ve noticed!

Is it thoughts turned animation?
I want to pause the breeze,
breathe in your silent curves.
How so tempting to raspberry!

A muse who’s needing attribution?
If your eyes glanced back,
we would meet at a red sunday.
And would be pancakes and syrup!

Nine Month Update

June 18th, 2007  Forgive me father, it has been 9 months since my last blog posting…

I could pretend like nothing happened and continue blogging as normal, but like an old high school friend the proper thing to do is to quickly catch up before moving on.

Nearly all of my time over the past nine months has been devoted to work, which naturally has to be shrouded in secrecy. At the end of last year I started managing a team of talented individuals. I hear there was once a shirt around Apple that said “90 hrs/wk and loving it,” to which I can now completely relate. Of course, like any great manager I missed the official management training due to WWDC responsibilities, but I’ll have to make do :-) . Speaking of which, WWDC 2007 [parties] did not disappoint.

Because of a variety of circumstances, I wasn’t able to celebrate my 25th birthday until tuesday during WWDC when two dear friends decided to throw me a party. The turnout was far greater than anticipated, and I’m sure we broke fire codes at Steps of Rome. Fun, hilarity, drunkenness, and likely scandalous photos of me ensued.

Before the madness of WWDC, my sister got married. It was absolutely wonderful, though brought an unexpected tear to my eye.

In addition to my sister being married, I also took trips to see a cousin’s wedding and another cousin’s bar mitzvah. I’m travelled out.

In other news, I was able to cross off an item of the “do before I die” list: I saw GO!GO!7188 live in concert! (I only have two items left to complete on the list before I can live by true samurai ideals…)

GO!GO!7188 (Yuu #1)

I’m glad to say that they mostly played their old songs, and only my favorite from their latest album. I also saw the Polysics in concert, which was a completely different kind of show the audience went nuts over.

Aside from having a certain-special-roommate for living with me for 5 months from september to february, those are the major happenings in my life!

HyperEdit 1.5.2 Released!

September 18th, 2006

Today I released HyperEdit 1.5.2! HyperEdit is my live HTML and PHP editor with W3C validation. The main change is that this version is a universal binary, so it will run great on both Intel and PowerPC-based Macs.

Download HyperEdit 1.52 (3.9 MB)

Please contact me if you run into any problems with the new version.

Breezy Days

August 13th, 2006

This is another picture I drew during the Fourth of July weekend. It is a simple pose, but that was partly the point; not every piece of artwork has to be trying something new.

Fighting to get up

I drew this picture during the Fourth of July weekend I spent back at home, but I’ve been too busy with WWDC to post it until now! I was trying to have the character show some emotion and be in a pose that would be part of a story. I think for it to work better, there needs to be more context.

WWDC 2006 Wrap-up

August 13th, 2006  WWDC 2006 was amazing. The Leopard developer preview got out the door. The Mac OS X State of the Union, of which I played a role, went flawlessly. My friends gave great sessions throughout the conference. I danced.

WWDC is spring break for engineers — the parties were awesome (Engineers Gone Wild?), and I’m still recovering from it all.

This year was more fun than any of the three other WWDC’s I’ve attended. I knew a lot more people than in previous years, got to know some people better, and met some new faces who learned what the “M” for my middle name stands for. Staying at a hotel near Moscone worked out great as well.

Now that it is over, I plan on doing all those things I didn’t get a chance to do because I was so busy. Here’s my (pretty standard) list:

  • Answer emails!
  • UB version of HyperEdit
  • Work on some other programming projects
  • Get my elbow fixed and start practicing Kendo again
  • Draw more frequently
  • Update this blog on a regular basis

Two Year Anniversary!

August 2nd, 2006  Today is my second anniversary of working at Apple.  Since last year, I’ve moved up in the world and now have two (2) window offices!  Alright, there’s a legitimate reason and it is really only temporary ;-) .  Most importantly this year, I’ve learned how to send emails faster, and upset engineering managers.  The first is a necessary skill, the second will hopefully be converted to “pleasing engineering managers” by next year!

In other news, once WWDC is over, I intend on finally making HyperEdit a universal binary!
