Vegas and the Japanese Tradition
Wednesday, February 1st, 2006The Japanese Tradition cracks me up.
This weekend Brent and I hit Vegas, and among other things, had some damn good food and lots of sake. The best dining experience was Sushi Roku, on the third floor of the Forum Shops at Ceasar’s Palace. Our waitress, Yuko-san, recommended an excellent bottle of junmai ginjo that is evidently only made for Sushi Roku direct from Japan. Yes Emilie, Kubota “Manju” is still simply the best, but this was very smooth while still having a pleasing flavor! Trendy looking on the inside, the restaurant in many ways was very traditionally Japanese; Yuko-san attentively poured the sake for us, and each time a customer would walk in, the sushi chefs would belt out a hearty “Irrashai!” I was able to converse with the staff a bit in Japanese, which I think scored some brownie points. At the end of the meal, Yuko-san placed spoons in front of us saying, “I have a surprise for you,” and brought us an immensely tasty chocolate volcano cake. It is now my mission to find a bay area sushi-ya that can top the overall experience of Sushi Roku.
